HOFF
For our materials, we use full vegetable-tanned leather. This leather is tanned using tannins, natural ingredients extracted from plants, without the use of harmful chemicals. One of the characteristics of this leather is its firmness. We skive this leather and create products by folding it like origami or layering it.
Furthermore, HOFF's designs often incorporate the motif of envelopes. This is because we feel that the envelope, in its function of 'wrapping,' is a shape that has survived the selective pressures of a long history, a primitive and very logical design. We sense an unwavering power residing in things and shapes that have endured.
STUDIO HOFF
We started our company in Tokyo and now have a workshop in a 150-year-old traditional Japanese house in Fujino, a rural mountain village.
